Frequently asked

Questions, answered by drone specialists

What is RTK on a drone and how is it different from GPS?
RTK stands for Real-Time Kinematic positioning. Where standard GPS is accurate to a metre or more, RTK corrects the signal in real time against a fixed base station or network to reach centimetre-level accuracy. For mapping, surveying, and stockpile or inspection work where exact position matters, that difference is the whole point. RTK turns a drone into a survey-grade measurement tool.
What is the difference between RTK and PPK?
Both deliver centimetre accuracy, but they correct the data differently. RTK corrects in real time during the flight using a live connection to a base station, so you see accurate positions immediately. PPK, or Post-Processed Kinematic, records the raw data and corrects it afterward on a computer, which is more robust where a live signal link is unreliable. Many platforms support both. We help you choose based on your workflow and connectivity.
Do you need ground control points with an RTK drone?
RTK greatly reduces the need for ground control points, which traditionally had to be placed and surveyed by hand across a site. For many jobs a small number of checkpoints is enough to verify accuracy rather than establish it. This is where RTK saves the most time on survey and mapping projects, cutting hours of fieldwork per site.
What is GNSS and how does it relate to RTK?
GNSS, Global Navigation Satellite System, is the umbrella term for all the satellite constellations a drone can use, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou. A multi-constellation GNSS receiver locks onto more satellites for a stronger, more reliable position. RTK is the correction method layered on top of GNSS to push that position to centimetre accuracy.
What jobs need an RTK drone?
Topographic surveying, construction site mapping and progress tracking, stockpile volume measurement, corridor mapping of roads and powerlines, precision agriculture, and any inspection where every image must be tied to an exact location. If your deliverable is measured and reported, RTK or PPK accuracy is usually a requirement rather than a luxury.
What support do you get buying an RTK drone from Scanixx?
Every RTK and GNSS platform is verified against the manufacturer specs, and you get advice from people who understand survey accuracy and the RTK and PPK workflow. We help you match the platform, the positioning method, and the base station or network setup to your deliverables before you order. For fleet or multi-unit orders we prepare custom quotes with volume pricing.

Choosing the right RTK or GNSS drone for survey-grade accuracy

RTK and GNSS drones turn aerial data into survey-grade deliverables by reaching centimetre-level positioning where standard GPS is accurate only to a metre. The right platform depends on your workflow: RTK corrects position live during the flight, while PPK post-processes the data afterward for robustness where a signal link is unreliable, and many platforms support both. This collection brings together drones with multi-constellation GNSS receivers and RTK capability for surveyors, engineers, and mapping professionals who measure success in centimetres.

For survey and construction teams, the value of RTK is measured in fieldwork saved: far fewer ground control points to place and survey by hand, and data that is accurate the moment it is captured. That is the difference between a drone that produces nice images and one that produces a deliverable you can stake a report on. If you are comparing RTK and PPK workflows, base station options, or GNSS performance, the Scanixx team verifies every spec against the manufacturer and helps you match the platform to your deliverables before you commit. For fleet or multi-unit orders, we prepare custom quotes with volume pricing.
