Choosing between the DJI Agras T40 and the DJI Agras T50 comes down to one question: how much ground do you need to cover, and how fast? Both are heavy-lift agricultural platforms that spray and spread from the same 40 L tank class, but they are built for slightly different operations. This guide breaks down the official DJI specifications side by side so you can spec the right aircraft the first time.
The short answer
The T50 is DJI's newer flagship: higher maximum spray throughput, a larger spreading tank, and an upgraded sensing suite. The T40 is the proven workhorse — slightly lighter, widely supported, and still a serious performer for most row-crop and mixed operations. If raw spraying speed and the latest obstacle avoidance matter most, look at the T50. If you want a battle-tested platform at strong value, the T40 still earns its place.

Spraying: the biggest difference
Both aircraft carry the same 40 L spray tank, so the real gap is in how quickly they empty it. The T40 pushes a maximum of 12 L/min through its two dual-atomizing nozzles. The T50 is designed for higher throughput — up to 24 L/min when configured with its four-sprinkler setup, roughly double the T40. For operators spraying large, open acreage where flow rate is the bottleneck, that difference translates directly into more tanks per hour and less downtime.
Both platforms deliver an effective spray width of up to 11 m, so swath spacing is comparable; the T50 simply moves more liquid through that swath when you need it.
Spreading
For spreading seed, fertiliser or feed, the T50 carries a slightly larger 75 L hopper against the T40's 70 L, both rated to a 50 kg payload. The T50 also widens the spread pattern to 8 m versus the T40's 7 m. If you run a lot of spreading work, those margins add up over a season.
Obstacle sensing and safety
This is where the T50's newer design shows. The T40 uses an omnidirectional phased-array radar for terrain following and obstacle detection — excellent, and proven across thousands of operations. The T50 adds front and rear phased-array radars for 360° coverage plus a binocular vision system, giving it more layered awareness around trees, poles and wires. For operators working tighter, more complex fields, that extra redundancy is meaningful.
Battery and handling
Both drones run a 30,000 mAh, 52.22 V intelligent flight battery (the T40 uses the BAX601, the T50 the DB1560 — they are not interchangeable). The T50 is marginally heavier at 52 kg with battery versus 50 kg for the T40, and both sit around a 90–92 kg maximum takeoff weight when spraying. In practice, transport and setup feel very similar between the two.
Which one should you choose?
Choose the T50 if: you cover large acreage where spray throughput is your limiting factor, you want the newest sensing suite for complex or obstacle-heavy fields, or you do a lot of spreading and want the bigger hopper and wider pattern.
Choose the T40 if: you want a proven, widely supported platform, your fields are more open, or value is a priority and the T40's throughput already comfortably meets your workload.
Either way, the right choice depends on your crops, field layout and the batteries and chargers you build around the aircraft. If you'd like a recommendation tailored to your operation — including the right ready-to-fly kit, battery count and charging setup — our team is happy to spec it with you.
